Standing up for our World-School Council

SCHOOL COUNCIL

All children are part of the school council. The children in Class 3 are working towards choosing one of the 17 Sustainable Goals each term to focus on and then sharing this with the children in Class 2.

As per our school vision and prayer, we think of how we can make a difference in our school, in our village and in our world.

In the Autumn term, it was Number 3-Good Heath and Well-being. We focused on mental health and wellbeing, looking at emotions and using The Colour Monster and the film Inside Out as stimulation. The children made posters using Adobe Express about emotions and how to look after our mental health.

We also had a super Friends from the Village session (Intergenerational) during which the visitors talked with the children about what they do to feel good using conversation starter cards.

For our world, the children decided to raise money for the Toilet Twinning charity. They decided to hold a non-uniform day and organise a cake sale (making posters to advertise). We raised an amazing £120 which allowed us to twin with two toilets (one in Uganda and one in Zimbabwe).

Last term we focused on Number 2-Zero Hunger. The children organised a 'Nearly New Bring and Buy Sale' which was held on Friday 4th April. We made an amazing £120 so split the donations between the West Northumberland Food Bank and the Myanmar Earthquake Appeal.

For the summer term, we are planning to choose Number 13 Climate Action. This ties in well with staff and governors who are in the process of finalising our Climate Action Plan with our Sustainability Lead.
