Pre-school (Humshaugh and District)

Humshaugh and District Pre-School is a charitable organisation run by a voluntary Committee of Pre-School parents.  We aim to provide children with the confidence to explore on their own, have fun, blossom and be instilled with a love of learning from an early age.

Children can begin attending Pre-School from the age of 2.  They do not have to be out of nappies when they start.  Most children stay with us until they begin their academic school life in Reception and the majority of children apply to attend the main school.   We can take a maximum of 16 children so the feeling in Pre-School is never overwhelming.  We rent a classroom from Humshaugh First School and have access to the school’s yard and play park next door in the community field.

We appreciate that starting Pre-School can be a stressful and daunting time for children and parents.  We aim to make that transition as easy as possible by treating each child’s needs as unique.  If you think it will be helpful to stay and play with your child for a number of sessions that is fine.  If you think your child will be happier if they brought in toys/comforters from home that is equally fine.  If you would only like to leave your child for half an hour to start with and gradually increase their hours that is not a problem.  We want your child to want to come to Pre-School and we will be guided by what you feel will be the best transition approach.

2 year old funded places are available for eligible children.  You can check eligibility by searching for 2 year old funding on the www.northumberland.gov.uk website.  All children are eligible for 15 hours free childcare per week, term time from the term after their third birthday.  30 hours of funding is available to the parents of children aged 3 or 4 who both work 16 hours per week or more.

Our Pre-School is small but thriving and we are excited to be able to offer full day or half day sessions every day of the week from Monday to Friday during term time.

Sessions run from 9:00am -12:00pm and 12:00pm -3:00pm

There is the opportunity to use our Early Start Service at 8:30am or Breakfast Club which starts at 8:00am

Wednesday and Thursday mornings are currently reserved for 3 and 4 year old children only.

You can combine a morning and afternoon session if you would like your child to stay for a full day. How you allocate your child’s free childcare is your choice and we will accommodate everyone’s preferences if we possibly can. You may pay for extra sessions or early starts if you wish.

If your child attends a morning session until 12 noon and you would like them to stay for lunch they are able to do so at an additional cost of £2.  They can bring a packed lunch or purchase a school dinner for £2.30 and be collected at 12.30pm.

The afternoon session starts at 12 noon and your child will need a packed lunch or school dinner. There is no additional cost as the lunch break falls within the afternoon session.

You may choose to use your funded hours for early starts or breakfast club or these sessions can be paid for as below.
