Headteacher Message

Welcome to Humshaugh Church of England First School and thank you for taking the time to look at our website, we hope it gives you an insight into our school and out about the exciting opportunities we provide for all our children.

We aim to provide a safe, attractive, and supportive learning environment which is firmly rooted in our Christian vision based on Jesus’ parable of the soils found in Matthew’s gospel. Through it we nurture the development of every child in our care, enabling them to become effective independent learners who have a positive and active approach to their future lives in society.

As a Church of England school we have strong links to our local church St. Peter’s Humshaugh and with its support we promote our Christian values and ethos at all times. We place daily collective worship at the centre of school life which enables children and adults to experience the diversity of Christian practice and tradition. In our teaching we promote high quality, effective, academic and non-confessional religious education allows pupils and adults alike to flourish.

We are committed to our whole community; passionate about including everyone and excluding no one, and so children and adults all denominations as well as those of no religious affiliation are made equally welcome in our school.

Our school is set in the fantastic rural location of Humshaugh, nestled in the beautiful North Tyne Valley, just five miles north of the market town of Hexham. Children predominantly come from Humshaugh and the neighbouring villages and hamlets of Wall, Chollerford, Colwell and Lincoln Hill.

At Humshaugh we offer a stimulating and structured creative curriculum, which is broad, balanced and differentiated to meet the needs of every child whilst maintaining high expectation and equality of opportunity in which your child can develop as a whole person. As a small first school we know all the children especially well; we identify talents and abilities while supporting and providing challenges in learning. We look forward to working with you to ensure your child reaches their full potential.

We are a very happy, ‘family’ school that supports and is supported by the local community. Working as a partnership is something that we value highly, both with parents and family, as well as other partners. We have excellent links with neighbouring schools and local services which help support children.

If you are a new parent, please contact us to arrange a time to come to see school, it is the best way to find out exactly what we do. The school has a wide open door policy, so do not hesitate to contact school if you require a guided visit, information or have any queries.
